Acceptable use policy

When using SharedBox Chess, you agree to:

  • Not attempt to cheat, exploit, or manipulate games.
  • Not use automated tools or bots to play games.
  • Not manipulate ratings, arrange fake matches, or intentionally lose to boost another account.
  • Not harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
  • Not upload malicious content or attempt to compromise security.
  • Not reverse engineer or attempt to access unauthorized areas.
  • Not submit false or misleading information in career applications or support requests.

Game rules and fair play

SharedBox Chess rules

  • All games follow the official SharedBox Chess ruleset: standard chess with shared box mechanics where major pieces can occupy squares with eligible pawns.
  • Maximum of 3 shared boxes allowed on board at any time (total for both players).
  • Pawn is always eliminated first when shared box is attacked; strong piece can be captured on subsequent attack.
  • The system’s move validation is final and binding.
  • Game results are automatically recorded and cannot be manually altered.

Fair play

  • Players must make their own moves without external assistance.
  • Use of chess engines or analysis software during games is prohibited.
  • Deliberate disconnection to avoid losses is not permitted.
  • Match-fixing, collusion, and intentional rating abuse are prohibited.
  • All games must be played in good faith and with honest intent.

Ratings, match results, and statistics

SharedBox Chess may provide competitive metrics such as AI rating, multiplayer rating, streaks, and statistics. These metrics are service features for gameplay purposes and are not guaranteed to be error-free, continuous, or suitable for external ranking use.

  • Ratings may be recalculated, reset, or tuned as the system evolves.
  • Only eligible game modes and outcomes may affect ratings.
  • Offline/local games may not update server-side ratings until synced.
  • Match validation and recorded outcomes by the platform are final.

Intellectual property rights

Our rights

SharedBox Chess, including its design, code, content, and SharedBox Chess variant rules, are our intellectual property. You may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written permission.

Your content

You retain ownership of any content you create (such as usernames or profile information). By using our platform, you grant us a license to use this content to provide our services.

Service availability and modifications

We strive to maintain continuous service availability, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We reserve the right to:

  • Modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the service.
  • Perform maintenance that may temporarily limit access.
  • Update game rules or features with reasonable notice.
  • Implement security measures that may affect functionality.
  • Apply migrations or corrections that may impact historical stats, ratings, or game records.

Notice of changes

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned maintenance or significant changes to the service.

Privacy and data handling

Payments and sponsorships

If you make sponsorship or support payments, those transactions are processed by third-party payment providers. We do not store full card details on our servers.

  • Payment processing, authorization, and settlement are handled by the payment provider.
  • Sponsorship/support payments are generally non-refundable unless required by law.
  • We may suspend payment-related features when abuse, fraud, or policy violations are detected.

Limitation of liability

SharedBox Chess is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties and shall not be liable for:

  • Loss of data, games, or account information.
  • Service interruptions or technical difficulties.
  • Damages resulting from your use of the platform.
  • Actions or conduct of other users.

Cap on liability

In no event shall our liability exceed the amount you have paid to use our services in the twelve months preceding the claim.
